a boy appeared seemingly out of nowhere at just the right age to be a squire. convenient. he's spent his life in armor in service of ishgard, both at war and at tournaments and jousts. people in the circle may know him--for good, or for ill.2. greystone.
somewhere within the hierarchy of titled lords, there sits a viscount with fair skin, the bluest of eyes, and flaming red hair. there's rumors he had a bastard daughter with one of his maids. a half-hyuran woman, she worked as a lady's maid to his viscountess and was often described as a vision, more well mannered than her status usually allowed. she disappeared one day, though, and no one seems to know where she went. nor to the rumors point to what became of that daughter with bright red hair and the bluest of eyes.3. ward.
the pathway to knighthood is not one that is without expenses--and his father's pilfered shoe buckles only went so far. it was by the grace of the fury that he taken in as a ward by house castaigne and sponsored through knighthood, eventually landing in the eleventh cavalry unit along the house's second son, ambroise.4. holy order.
formed in the wake of a reforming ishgard, the halonic order of our knights most holy was an attempt to reframe the views of the public on knighthood. an order of the best knights to represent the city-state, to act as escorts to the representatives of ishgard. nominated by captain ambroise castaigne. the vows taken are rigid and difficult--but he is proud to be one of the knights most holy.

he kept the name ‘maren.’ it was the only thing his mother ever gave him.scandal was the way of it: the lord of house phénix, unfaithful to his wife. likely not the first time, but the first time the lady carried a child to term and balked at teas or tinctures. what would be come of her was the question. many mistresses and their children who look like their fathers were put up in apartments in the pillars, paid hush money for their little greystones. but she disappeared. she disappeared and left the baby with a wet nurse: a daughter named maren.seven years as a maid and happening to walk by a tournament of knights when doing errands one day, maren’s mind was made up. the little maid greystone of the house stole a set of shoe-buckles and sold them for enough of a sum to purchase starter armor and a few supplies. time was spent coasting off good deeds until the youngest son of house castaigne, a page in his own rights, took a fondness to him. (he was him by now, dressing in boys clothes, even if his hair grew long.)not a son, but a ward. even reminded they were not brothers by the head of house and the chilly heir, emilion. he was treated as a ward would be. sponsored and raised, expected to give back to the house that had given him all he had. he worked hard and earned what he had–he and second-son ambroise falling in line to enter space in the eleventh cavalry. but while ambroise became captain, maren moved higher. it was at the recommendation of ambroise and the gleaming praise of many amongst the eleventh that he was presented a new opportunity.now, this greystone, once maid then runaway, was awarded the covetous position as a part of the HALONIC ORDER OF KNIGHTS MOST HOLY–an organization tasked with protecting the representative of house, church, and state. the best of the best, ordained as clergy along with being trained in knights. for maren, well, it was all he could have dreamed of.

personality:

a noblewoman once spoke of maren by stating he was the sort of knight that love stories were written about–and it had taken much to get him there. there was an initial anger at him: an anger at his station, at being looked down on. at being seen as lesser. at those in his past who had hurt him. but as he aged, he found grace and dignity. most of all, he found acceptance--not that he is fully removed from throwing a helmet in absolute irritation from time to time. he is, after all, just a man.well spoken and well mannered, he is every bit raised in a noble house. arguably more noble than some raised in noble houses, because he had something to prove from his disadvantaged place as a greystone.he is involved in his religion and spends much of his free time involved in the church, wherein he met a woman for whom he has a great fondness. he is also still involved in the training of upcoming cavalry knights where he and his bird, loxley, oversee a new generation.
